Reading N’ Reasoning

Reading N’ Reasoning is a literacy and mentorship initiative launched in 2022 with a special focus on boys and young men.

The programme was conceptualized by Joel Nomdarkham, in response to growing concerns about boys disengaging from reading and struggling to see themselves reflected in stories and learning spaces. Through school visits, book discussions and guided reasoning sessions, participants are encouraged to read, think critically and speak confidently about their ideas, emotions and lived experiences.

The sessions go beyond books. They create safe, affirming spaces where boys can explore identity, decision-making, peer pressure and purpose through conversation and storytelling. By blending literacy with life skills, Reading N’ Reasoning helps young people build confidence, empathy and a stronger relationship with learning that extends beyond the classroom.
